Theresa was born in Southampton, Hampshire, but is currently living in Worcestershire with her husband and one of her three children, the others having now flown the nest. She is currently studying for the Access to Art Course at the South Worcestershire College in Malvern. The one year course gives her a broad introduction to a variety of art disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, textile, bookbinding, ceramics and contextual studies. In the third term she will have the opportunity to produce an independent study, specialising in an art discipline of her choice, and exhibit work in a College Exhibition at the end of the year.
Although she has always enjoyed art and craft, her introduction to this at senior school was sadly lacking. At the age of 20 and whilst working for a well known High Street Bank, she went to night school to learn dressmaking. Theresa had found a new passion and stayed at night school for many years, even making her own wedding dress. In 1990 along came twin daughters and then her time was not her own. Theresa's only art at this time was cutting and sticking with her three children.
In August 1998 having only just moved to Milton Ernest in Bedfordshire, the whole family then moved to Schlossborn, Germany due to her husband's job. It is here that she was introduced to Decorative Folk Art Painting, Cross Stitch and Scrapbooking and Papercrafts. And so her love of playing with different mediums truly started...
On returning to the UK two years later, she again enrolled in an evening class for decorative folk art painting, and became a consultant for an American scrapbooking company, selling and demonstrating scrapbooking products. Alongside this, she ran monthly workshops where she would teach scrapbooking and paper-crafting techniques.
Over the years she has attended many workshops and classes, from watercolour painting to fused glass workshops and in recent years has started sewing again, not only dressmaking but quilting and a foray into free motion stitching and felting on the embellisher. So she has come full circle and come back to her first love, sewing. Amazingly these skills did not desert her, they were safely tucked away and just need a little dusting off. Theresa loves to play with all types of art forms but sewing and textiles seem to be her calling...
More recently she has sold some of her hand crafted items at local craft fairs. Although this has gone onto the back burner for the moment with college assignments taking precedence, it is something she would like to pursue in the future along with pursuing her love for textiles and running workshops.
